Stephen Broadberry

Stephen Broadberry is Professor of Economic History at the University of Oxford, Research Theme Leader at CAGE and a CEPR Research Fellow. He has also taught at the London School of Economics and the Universities of Warwick, Cardiff and British Columbia and held visiting positions at UC Berkeley, Humboldt University Berlin, UPF Barcelona and Hitotsubashi University Tokyo. He is a fellow of  the British Academy. His research interests include sectoral aspects of the comparative growth and productivity performance of Britain, the United States and Germany during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries; productivity in services, development of the world economy since 1000; the Great Divergence of productivity and living standards between Europe and Asia.; the Economics of War. He has been a Managing Editor of the Economic History Review and the European Review of Economic History and served on the editorial boards of the Journal of Economic History, Explorations in Economic History, Structural Change and Economic Dynamics and Cliometrica. He has served as President of the Economic History Society and has also been President of the Europeam Historical Economics Sociuety. He has also been a trustee of the Cliometric Society and the  Economic History Association. His 2015 book, British Economic Growth, 1270-1870, coauthored with Bruce Campbell, Alexander Klein, Mark Overton and Bas van Leeuwen was publisehd with Cambridge University Press. Together with Kyoji Fukao, he is an editor of the Cambridge Economic History of the Modern World, which was published in summer 2021.
